State Historical Marker, first diamonds in U.S. were found here while mining for gold. Town had over 1000 residents at one time. Most of the town was destroyed by fire in 1947.

The Jones lost 2 sons 1885 age6 1890 age9.      Thomas McDaniel 1869 age 11 Life was hard and short in Cherokee in the 1800's But is a beautiful place to retire in the new Millennium
